Kerala Waterfalls
God’s own country, Kerala is a heaven for nature and adventure lovers. The presence of abundant greenery ensures a continuing freshness for weary heart and soul. The vast stretches of sea and river water, the lakes and waterfalls, mountains and forests enthrall the imagination of the incoming visitors of Kerala. No less than 34 lakes are present in the state which can be geographically segregated into three categories. First one is bordered by the sandbank running parallel to the riverbank second one with land on its front side while the third one runs almost perpendicular to the riverbank.
Most of these magnificent lakes form outstanding destinations for backwater trips in Kerala. The major attraction of the destination is the serenity of lake water which is tremendously calming. The thundering fall of waterfall (there are around 19 of them) seems to break the reverie of tourists. The waterfalls too present a breathtakingly picturesque beauty while rushing down from a great height.

Athirapally and Vazhachal Waterfalls :
Athirapally is a 800 foot high waterfalls at the entrance of the Sholayar ranges being one of the famous picnic spots for backpackers. It has been a most demanding tourist destination of south India. These waterfalls are located 78 kms from Kochi, which can be easily accessed through road.
Athirappally Falls is about 80ft. high enclosed with forest area offers one of the most bewitching sights. It infuses freshness into any tired soul with rich greenery and magic of nature. After plummeting drop from 80 feet Athirapally Falls join the Chalakkudy River.

Vazhachal is yet another picturesque spot of Kerala located near to Athirapally falls. Vazhachal is a part of the Chalakkudy River adjacent to dense green forestland.

The breezy, mist covered waters cascading down in the backdrop of thick green forest and rocky terrain are a scintillating experience for the visitors.

Palaruvi waterfalls or ' stream of milk' :
The Palaruvi waterfalls is located 75 Kms away from Kollam on the Kollam-Shenkottai road near Aryankavu. The destination can be easily accessed by road as there are frequent buses from Kollam to Aryankavu.

There are ruins of ancient temples near the spot. Water from the falls is believed to be medicated as it flows down from the forest and is believed to be preventive for many diseases.

Thusharagiri Waterfalls :
The gurgling waterfalls of Thusharagiri are snuggled cozily in the Western Ghats. Thushargiri means the snow capped mountains; exhibits a unique kinship between the land and water. There are three waterfalls on the backdrop of the Western Ghats providing an exhilarating and spellbinding sight to the visitor.

September to November is the best time to enjoy the roar of the waterfalls. The gentle spray of waterfall is worth to be felt and experienced. The Chalippuzha River is formed while the two streams originating from the Western Ghats meets here. This river then diverges into three waterfalls forming a snowy spray, which gives the name, 'Thusharagiri'.
